姜天安 1961年出生。1983年毕业于浙江医科大学，井考取研究生，获硕士学位。后在浙江儿童医院工作，其间在国内外多家专业学刊杂志发表论文和文摘二十多篇，荣获卫生部青年科学基金奖，并多次荣获优秀论文和科学研究成果奖。1991年，获美国明尼苏达大学奖学金，赴美留学，学成获博士学位，后在美国爱荷华大学做博士后研究员，多次参加国际专业学术研讨会，并发表相关论文和科研成果。曾在美国约翰斯·霍普金斯大学工作，任该校公共卫生学院人类营养中心实验室主任、美国营养学会、奶品科学学会会员，中华医学会、营养学会会员和浙江大学客座教授。
